Register now for Historic District Walking Tours on December 4

Monday, November 1, 2021 - 4:26pm

The Town of Wake Forest and the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) are partnering with the Wake Forest Historical Museum to host the “It’s a Wonderful Wake Forest” Historic Holiday Festival on Saturday, Dec. 4, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The event will feature free walking tours of the local Wake Forest Historic District every 30 minutes between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Each will last approximately 90 minutes and begin and end at the Wake Forest Historical Museum, 414 N. Main St.

Led by Town staff, as well as current and former members of the HPC, the tours will include areas throughout the local historic district. Along the way, each group will discuss the developmental and architectural history of the area, along with the significant men and women who lived in the homes. Tours will be conducted from the public right-of-way and will not include the interior of individual homes.

Pre-registration is required by completing the online sign-up form at https://bit.ly/ItsAWonderfulWF. Space is limited to the first 15 participants to sign up for each tour.

As part of the day’s festivities, the Calvin Jones House, historical museum and exhibit hall will be decorated for the holidays and open for tours. The favorite holiday film, "It's a Wonderful Life," will also be screened in the museum auditorium, while local musicians will perform both inside and outside the museum. For more information, contact Melanie Rausch at 919-435-9581 or [email protected].
