If the Power Goes Out

Customers who experience an outage during the storm should call their respective utility:

  • Wake Forest Power customers call 919-435-9478

  • Wake Electric customers call 919-863-6499 or 800-743-3155

  • Duke Energy Progress customers call 800-419-6356

Tips to Remember

  • Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed. Food usually stays frozen about 48 hours. A refrigerator can keep food cold for about four hours. Remember, when in doubt, throw it out.

  • Do not connect a generator directly to your home's electrical system. It is dangerous to you, your neighbors and utility workers. Follow manufacturer's directions regarding connecting appliances directly to your generator.

  • In any power outage, utility crews restore service as quickly as possible, starting with the largest lines and facilities serving the most people.

Repair of Power Lines at Homes & Businesses

Contact Wake Forest Power or your respective utility if a power line is down between the utility pole and where the line is attached to the house, known as the weatherhead.

The property owner is responsible for line or equipment (mast and/or meter) damage from the point of attachment (weatherhead) to anywhere on the house. Call Inspections & Permits at 919-435-9531 for the electrical permit and inspection that are required before Wake Forest Power restores power.

When an emergency electrical connection is needed after normal business hours, a licensed electrician may make the connection before obtaining the required permit and inspection. Inspections & Permits should be contacted at the beginning of the next business day.
