Arbor Day Tree Seedling Giveaway
Saturday, April 18 | 10 am-2 pm
Town Hall Parking Lot, 301 S. Brooks St.
The Town of Wake Forest is offering community members added incentive to attend this year’s Forest Fest in downtown Wake Forest. Town staff and volunteers will host the popular Arbor Day Tree Seedling Giveaway in the Town Hall Parking Lot, 301 Brooks St., as part of the April 18 festivities.
During the tree seedling giveaway, Town staff and volunteers will distribute over 3,300 dogwood, persimmon, and oak seedlings - while they last. Forest Fest begins at 10 a.m., so anyone interested in obtaining free tree seedlings is encouraged to arrive at the start of the event.
In addition to distributing the tree seedlings, volunteers will be on hand to help residents decide which seedlings grow best in their respective yard conditions, demonstrate proper mulching and pruning techniques and discuss simple, yet effective tree care practices.
The tree seedlings will be given away on a first-come, first serve basis. Reservations and sign-ups prior to the event will not be accepted.
Bring Your Own Bag
The UFB is encouraging residents to help protect the environment by bringing their own reusable shopping tote or other environmentally-friendly bag when they pick up their seedlings.

Observing Arbor Day
Arbor Day is part of an annual nationwide campaign to promote the planting of trees. The event began in Nebraska in 1872 when newspaper journalist J. Sterling Morton proposed a tree-planting holiday to the State Board of Agriculture.
Although National Arbor Day is celebrated on the last Friday in April, individual state commemorations are scheduled on dates better suited to their own tree-planting seasons. North Carolina officially celebrates Arbor Day on the first Friday following March 15.
