Rainwater Harvesting
In 2009 the Town of Wake Forest installed a rainwater harvesting system at the Public Works Operations Center, 234 Friendship Chapel Road.
The set up involves a series of 10" gutters that drain into two 5,000-gallon cisterns and one 1,200-gallon cistern. The rainwater collected in these tanks is used in the town's street sweeper, boring machine, and brine system. Wake Forest also uses the saved water to wash its fleet of motor vehicles, including police cars and utility trucks.
Altogether, the rainwater harvesting system is expected to save over 100,000 gallons of water/year.
