Traffic Alert - Dr. Calvin Jones Highway/NC 98 Bypass

Saturday, January 14, 2017 - 11:25am

Drivers should expect delays along the Dr. Calvin Jones Highway/NC 98 Bypass in the vicinity of the South Main Street intersection today until 6 p.m. A private contractor working at the future site of the Lidl supermarket has reduced to a single lane a portion of eastbound and westbound Dr. Calvin Jones Highway/NC 98 Bypass in the vicinity of the South Main Street/US 1A intersection.

The lane reduction is necessary to allow crews to perform storm drain work along the median.

Signs and cones are in place to safely direct traffic through the work area. The lane reduction is causing delays, so motorists may wish to avoid the area and take an alternate route.

The Town of Wake Forest provides this information as a public service. Planned road closures and restrictions are necessary to allow for a variety of work. Motorists are encouraged to use the information to help plan their route and move safely through the work area. Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets when planned. When this occurs, town staff works with contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public. When traveling through a construction area, drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians are asked to be patient, proceed with caution, and obey flaggers at all times. Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone. Drivers are also urged to double their following distances.
