New Year's Holiday Schedule

The Wake Forest Town Hall and other administrative offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 1, for the New Year's holiday. Police service will not be interrupted, but bus service and sanitation schedules will be affected.

During the week of Jan. 1, the collection schedule for garbage and recycling will run one day later than normal and extend into Saturday. So, for example, Monday's route will be collected Tuesday, Jan. 2, and Friday's route will be collected Saturday, Jan. 6.

Yard waste collection will resume Tuesday, Jan. 2, at 7 a.m. Crews will follow the normal collection schedule beginning with Monday's route. Collection of the Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday routes will occur throughout the remainder of the week until all routes have been completed.

In order to ensure that all neighborhoods are serviced properly, Wake Forest residents are urged to leave their normal yard waste at the curb by 7 a.m. Tuesday. Please avoid placing items on or near mailboxes, utility boxes, utility poles or other fixed objects.

Bulk pick-ups will be scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 3. To schedule a bulk pickup, call 919- 435-9570 by 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2. Residents who call after hours may leave a voicemail message that includes their name and physical address. Residents may also request a bulk pickup by emailing bpearce@wakeforestnc.gov.

All voicemail and email requests for bulk pickup service must include the resident's name, physical address, and telephone number, along with a description of the bulk waste items to be collected. Any service request that does not include the required information will not be processed.

When scheduling a bulk waste pickup, Wake Forest residents are urged to follow the Town's bulk waste guidelines. Defined in the Town's code of ordinances as "refuse weighing in excess of 75 pounds each," bulk waste includes any item that does not fit in the town-issued roll-out garbage cart. Examples of bulk waste pickup items include furniture, lawn mowers, swings, and book shelves. For more information, visit wakeforestnc.gov and search "Bulk pickup."

Beginning Thursday, Dec. 28, Wake Forest will collect and recycle live Christmas trees from residential homes according to the normal yard waste collection schedule. The trees will be ground into mulch, which will be used at the site of the 2018 Public Power Lineworkers Rodeo, scheduled for Saturday, April 28. Orders for mulch are currently being accepted by emailing bpearce@wakeforestnc.gov or calling 919-435-9570.

All Wake Forest residents whose yard waste is collected by the Town may participate in the "Treecycling" program. To recycle your Christmas tree, please remove all decorations, tinsel, nails, stands and bags from the tree and set it behind the curb for collection. Artificial trees cannot be recycled.

Wake Forest Bus Service, including the Wake Forest-Raleigh Express and the Wake Forest Loop, will not be provided Monday, Jan. 1, but will resume its normal schedule Tuesday, Jan. 2.

Town offices will re-open Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 8 a.m.
