New morning & afternoon traffic patterns for Wake Forest High School

Tuesday, August 21, 2018 - 2:27pm

Wake Forest High School (WFHS) will kick off the 2018-19 school year on Monday, Aug. 27. Due to ongoing construction along Stadium Drive, several important traffic changes will take effect that impact parents, students and other drivers. These changes include specific morning and afternoon traffic patterns designed to help alleviate congestion and ensure everyone’s safety.

The Town of Wake Forest partnered with Wake Forest Police and Wake County Schools to develop and produce two maps and a video highlighting the new morning and afternoon traffic patterns. Available on the Town’s website at www.wakeforestnc.gov/2018-wake-forest-high-school-arrival-dismissal.aspx, these resources designate a “red” route for parents and a “blue” route for student drivers. Town and school officials urge parents, students, teachers, staff and residents who live near WFHS to review the information prior to the start of the 2018-19 school year. Temporary signage identifying the “red” and “blue” routes will be installed along each route prior to Aug. 27.

For arrival in the morning, parents should follow the “red” route, using only Wingate Street and Pine Avenue when approaching the school for student drop-off. Parents should enter the school campus, then stack along Rock Spring Road. To help ensure student safety, parents should not allow their passengers to exit the vehicle until they have reached the designated drop-off area. On the other hand, students should follow the “blue” route, using Juniper Avenue and Rock Spring Road to access the student parking areas.

For afternoon dismissal, parents should again use only Wingate Street and Pine Avenue for student pickup. Parents please note: If your student is not waiting in the pickup area when you arrive at the curb, please continue moving your vehicle and circle the block again by going out Stadium Drive to Wingate Street to Pine Avenue. This will help ensure a consistent flow of traffic.

Upperclassmen leaving the parking garage must turn left onto Rock Spring Road. Also, upperclassmen are encouraged to be considerate and allow drivers from both garage exits to alternate as they leave. Underclassmen leaving the gravel lot must turn right from Hipps Drive onto Rock Spring Road then onto Pine Avenue.

Finally, for both arrival and dismissal at the school, Rock Spring Road between Stadium Drive and Hipps Drive will be treated as a one-way street. In addition, the front parking lot at WFHS is reserved exclusively for buses and staff only during these times. No other parking will be permitted in this lot.
