S-Line Design Workshop

 After an over 50-year hiatus, NCDOT is working to bring passenger rail service back to Wake Forest through the S-Line project. The S-Line is a rail corridor that is being considered for local commuter rail service and regional intercity rail service along the planned Southeast High-Speed Rail Corridor. Local connections would include Wake Forest, Apex, Cary, and Raleigh among others, with direct regional connections to Richmond, VA, and Washington DC.

To help communities maximize the potential opportunities new station locations may bring, NCDOT is conducting the S-Line Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Study. This study will evaluate TOD potential around proposed station locations and help guide future implementation for the S-Line rail corridor.

As part of the study’s public engagement efforts, NCDOT is hosting design workshops this week on Wednesday and Thursday, June 8 and 9, from 1-4 p.m. each day at the Wake Forest Renaissance Center, 405 S. Brooks St. These workshops will focus on future land use patterns and urban design considerations for proposed station locations.

NCDOT will also host public open house sessions Wednesday from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Renaissance Centre and Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m. in the first floor lobby of the Wake Forest Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St. Each open house session will provide an overview of the S-Line project and recap the public input gathered thus far.
