May Month of FitnessThe Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources (PRCR) Department will offer a free fitness series in May.

Free and open to area residents of all ages, “May Month of Fitness” will consist of Bollywood Dance Fitness on Mondays, Camp Gladiator on Tuesdays, Yoga on Wednesdays and Dance & Get Fit Line Dance on Thursdays. Each will be offered on their respective nights from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road.

All classes are free and require no registration.

Mondays - Bollywood Dance Fitness

Come & try out Bollyrobics! A group Bollywood Dance Fitness session, an energetic & exhilarating workout, based on signature Bollywood dance moves done to catchy uptempo Bollywood music!

Fun for all, easy to follow, great for dance lovers of any ability! With sets of movements based on a wide variety of international styles blended with dances of India, this is a follow-along class coupled with instructional break-downs for the newbies or the more advanced dance steps. It is designed to give you a great cardio boost with an overall toning and also instruct you on snazzy dance moves.

Tuesdays - Camp Gladiator

Camp Gladiator is an adult fitness boot camp that promises a motivating and challenging environment where men and women of all ages and fitness levels can push themselves. Participants should expect a total body workout. A typical session could include interval training, sprint and agility drills, stations, plyometrics, body weight strength drills, cardio mix, and much more. Camp Gladiator is designed to increase your functional strength, speed, stamina and - most importantly - deliver results.

Camp Gladiator participants are encouraged to bring a mat and water.

Wednesdays - Yoga

Yoga sessions will meet on Wednesdays in May. Participants are encouraged to bring a mat and water.

Thursdays - Dance & Get Fit Line Dance

Dance & Get Fit Line Dance is a total body workout using low to high impact R&B Line Dances to stay in Shape. No dance experience required. Just come out to learn how to do the latest soul line dances in a fun and friendly environment.

Women's Self Defense Class

Also, during the May Month of Fitness, the PRCR Department will offer a free Women’s Self Defense class Saturday, May 9, from 10-11 am inside the Joyner Park Community Center, 701 Harris Road.

Effective self-defense is based on awareness, technique, leverage, and an armor of rock-solid confidence that you can handle any bad situation. Hosted by Pendergrass Academy, this class will combine environmental awareness, psychological tactics and practical hands-on self-defense training.

Admission is free, and no registration is required. However, attendees will be required to sign a waiver, so anyone planning to attend should arrive 10-15 minutes early.

Participants are encouraged to wear workout clothes and athletic shoes - but no jewelry - and bring water.

No Cost to Participate

All classes offered as part of the May Month of Fitness are free and require no registration.
