Chief Julius Jefferson brings nearly two decades of dedicated service to the Wake Forest Police Department. A respected leader known for his integrity, vision, and commitment to public safety, he has earned the trust of officers, staff, town leadership, and the community alike.

A native of Warren County, Chief Jefferson, began his law enforcement career in 1996 with the Wake County Sheriff’s Office as a Detention Officer. He was promoted to Detention Sergeant in 1999 before completing Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) at Vance-Granville Community College in 2006.

He joined the Wake Forest Police Department in September 2006 as a Patrol Officer. Since then, he has held several key leadership positions, including Patrol Sergeant, Impact Sergeant, Traffic Sergeant, Impact Lieutenant, and Impact Captain. He also served on the Wake County Traffic Safety Task Force. On June 17th, 2025, Jefferson was named Chief of Police after an extensive nationwide search after serving as Interim Chief for five months.

Chief Jefferson holds an associate degree in criminal justice from Vance-Granville Community College and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from UNC Pembroke. His professional development includes completion of the 69th session of the Administrative Officers Management Program at NC State University, the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Leadership Series, FBI Command College, and additional training in Ethical Leadership and Leadership on the Line.

Outside of work, Chief Jefferson enjoys movies, carpentry, detailing cars, and attending car shows.
