Traffic Alert – North Main Street
Wake Forest Power tree crews will close the southbound lane of North Main Street from West Cedar Avenue to West Juniper Avenue Thursday, Sept. 12, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The temporary lane closure is necessary to allow crews to remove a declining maple tree out of concern for public safety.
Detour signs and flaggers will be in place directing traffic around the work area. Delays are expected, so motorists are encouraged to use an alternate route if possible.
Town officials are exploring possible uses for the tree’s usable wood after it is cut down. The smaller limbs and branches may be chipped up and distributed as wood chips.

The Town of Wake Forest provides this information as a public service. Planned road closures and restrictions are necessary to allow for a variety of work. Motorists are encouraged to use the information to help plan their route and move safely through the work area.
Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets when planned. When this occurs, Town staff works with contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public.
When traveling through a construction area, drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians are asked to be patient, proceed with caution, and obey flaggers. Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone. Drivers are also urged to double their following distances.
