Traffic Alert – Capital Boulevard/US 1

Friday, June 21, 2019 - 3:59pm

Drivers should expect delays along Capital Boulevard/US 1 this Saturday and Sunday, June 22-23, from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. each day.

Weather-permitting, Carolina Sunrock, a contractor working on behalf of NCDOT, will reduce to one lane portions of northbound and southbound Capital Boulevard/US 1 from South Main Street/US 1A to Durham Road/NC 98. The lane reductions are necessary to allow crews to finish resurfacing this stretch of Capital Boulevard/US 1, along with the crossover sections.

Motorists are reminded that because this area will be a construction work zone, speed limit reductions are planned. Drivers are urged to pay attention to the traffic switches and avoid tailgating when traveling through the zone.

Signs will be in place to alert motorists to the traffic pattern changes. Delays are expected, so motorists are encouraged to avoid the area if possible and take an alternate route.

The Town of Wake Forest provides this information as a public service. Planned road closures and restrictions are necessary to allow for a variety of work. Motorists are encouraged to use the information to help plan their route and move safely through the work area.

Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets when planned. When this occurs, town staff works with contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public.

When traveling through a construction area, drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians are asked to be patient, proceed with caution, and obey flaggers. Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone. Drivers are also urged to double their following distances.
