Renaissance Place being evacuated after “suspicious object” found nearby

UPDATE: The “suspicious object” located earlier today by crews from Wake Forest Power is a “sacrificial anode” PSNC Gas attaches to its gas lines to help locate and protect the lines. The object is non-explosive and does not pose any threat to safety. 

Police officials have lifted the evacuation of Renaissance Place.

 

The Wake Forest Police and Fire departments are in the process of evacuating Wake Forest Renaissance Place, located in the 400 block of South Brooks Street, after a "suspicious object" was found in the area. Renaissance Place is home to the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, Over the Falls restaurant, Page 158 Books, Dollar General.

At approximately 1 p.m., crews from Wake Forest Power notified Wake Forest Police about the suspicious object while performing work in a construction area situated between South Franklin Street and South Brooks Street.

The Raleigh Police Department Bomb Squad is responding.

Afternoon programming at the Renaissance Centre has been canceled, including the 3 p.m. “Free at 3” movie screening.
