Wake Forest Police have arrested a Wake Forest man for damaging the turf in E. Carroll Joyner Park by driving his vehicle throughout the park property early Saturday morning.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. Saturday, a Wake Forest police officer observed a truck leaving Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road. After obtaining the vehicle’s license plate number, the officer entered the park and observed damage to the grass and rope fencing along the right side of the driveway.

The officer located the truck and the driver, who was identified as Dylan Smith. Smith, 114 Andrew Court, admitted to driving at Joyner Park. He was arrested and charged with Driving While Impaired, damage to property, violation of a license restriction, careless and reckless driving and second-degree trespassing.

Smith was also trespassed from all Town of Wake Forest property.

Saturday’s incident marks the second time since November that vandals have damaged areas within Joyner Park by driving on the park grounds. Officials say they are unsure if the two incidents are related.

Additional information will be released when and if it becomes available.
