Congressman David Price visits Wake Forest

Friday, September 3, 2021 - 3:56pm

Congressman David Price (NC-04) visited Wake Forest today to tour the Wake Forest Reservoir and learn about current Town initiatives, including the new Affordable Housing Plan and the Wireless Research Center’s proposed Digital Workforce Hub at the Dubois Campus.

The visit included a Go Raleigh bus ride to the reservoir and a staff-guided tour of the site, followed by a tour of the Northeast Community. Congressman Price was joined on the tour by Wake Forest Mayor Vivian Jones, Commissioners Jim Dyer and Bridget Wall-Lennon, Town Manager Kip Padgett and several Town staff. Also on hand were NC Senator Sarah Crawford and Wake County Commissioners Sig Hutchinson and Shinica Thomas. Wake Forest Commissioners Chad Sary, Liz Simpers, and Adam Wright joined the group for lunch and a question and answer session at Town Hall.

In June, Congressman Price, a senior Member and former Chair of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, announced that his Community Project Request for the Wake Forest Reservoir Project had advanced in the House as part of the Fiscal Year 2022 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill. The project was included in the bill which passed the Subcommittee on June 30.

The project would award $2.175 million to the Town of Wake Forest to address safety risks associated with the 1960s-era reservoir dam by decommissioning and dismantling existing infrastructure to mitigate threats to public safety and implement new safety measures to mitigate potential flooding.

“Rebuilding North Carolina’s aging infrastructure will help mitigate future disasters and make our communities safer,” said Congressman David Price. “That is why I am pleased that the House Appropriations Homeland Security Subcommittee included the Wake Forest Reservoir Project upgrades in their annual funding bill. While passage in Subcommittee is just the first step, I’ll continue working to ensure this project is included in the final version of this year’s Homeland Security Appropriations bill.”

The Homeland Security funding bill now moves into the full House of Representatives for consideration.
