Concern for public safety forces removal of pecan tree in Joyner Park
Weather permitting, Town of Wake Forest tree crews will close a portion of the pecan grove at E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road, Monday, July 22, to remove a large pecan tree damaged during a recent storm.
According to Urban Forestry Coordinator Luke Devores, the tree has a large cavity of decay and must be removed out of concern for public safety. Although the wood is unsound due to decay and pests, the smaller limbs and branches will be chipped up and distributed as wood chips.
Crews will cordon off the affected area with yellow flagging tape. Visitors to Joyner Park are urged to use caution and maintain a safe distance from the work area.
