The Town of Wake Forest, the Northeast Community Coalition, Rebuilding Together for the Triangle, and a network of community partners are recruiting volunteers of all ages for “Make a Difference Day - Northeast Neighborhood Renewal” on Saturday, Oct. 23, at Taylor Street Park, 416 N. Taylor St.

Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m.-noon to help perform a range of tasks throughout the Northeast Community, including litter pickup, leaf sweeping and collection, storm drain stenciling, bulk waste removal, painting, gutter cleaning and more.

Local civic groups and community organizations are especially encouraged to participate. “Make a Difference Day” is also a great opportunity for local students to earn community service hours.

Everyone under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or adult. Waiver of liability forms are required for all participants and included in the online registration form.

Know Before You Go

  • Dress Appropriately
    On the day of the event, volunteers are urged to dress appropriately for being outdoors by wearing protective clothing, sunscreen, insect repellent, hats, work gloves and appropriate close-toed shoes (no sandals or flip-flops). 

  • COVID Vaccinations
    In addition to Saturday’s volunteer activities, HealthSmart Pharmacy will offer a walk-up COVID vaccination clinic at Taylor Street Park from 9 a.m.-noon. Healthcare professionals will administer the vaccine on a first-come, first-serve basis while supplies last, and no appointment is required.   • Free Blood Pressure Checks
    The Wake Forest Fire Department will also be onsite offering free blood pressure checks from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

  • Free Transportation Available
    Free transportation is available to Alston-Massenburg Center/Taylor Street Park via the Wake Forest Loop - a local circulator for residents wishing to travel within Wake Forest and a portion of the Wakefield community. For more information, including the weekly schedule, visit www.wakeforestnc.gov/transportation/bus-service.

  • When You Arrive, Please Check In
    When you arrive at Taylor Street Park, please report to the check-in tent, so we can make sure you’ve signed our release and liability waiver, direct you to the appropriate volunteer station, and answer any questions you may have.

  • Volunteer Activities
    Teams of volunteers will perform a range of tasks throughout the Northeast Community. Tasks will be assigned on a first come, first-served basis.

  • Water
    We’ll have plenty of bottled water available throughout the event to make sure everyone stays hydrated.

  • Restrooms
    Restrooms are available and conveniently located in the Alston-Massenburg Center, which is adjacent to Taylor Street Park.

  • You’ve Earned a Free Lunch
    Who said “nothing in life is free?” As our way of saying  “THANK YOU” for volunteering, we’re providing a free hotdog roast for our army of volunteers from noon-1 p.m.

Enjoy Lunch on Us

The event will conclude with a hotdog lunch for all volunteers from noon-1 p.m.
