Detour

  • A detour route will direct traffic to use Heritage Lake Road, Dr. Calvin Jones Highway/NC 98 Bypass and South Main Street to bypass the bridge construction during the duration of this project.

  • PLEASE NOTE: NCDOT has retained a consultant to oversee the signal timing at the South Main/98 Bypass intersection and other intersections along the detour route. The consultant is in the process of making timing adjustments so as to ensure the best possible timing is in place for the duration of the bridge replacement project.

Project Background & Overview

  • NCDOT originally planned to replace the Rogers Road Bridge in 2015 and widen the road from Hope Lutheran Church to Forestville Road within the next 10-15 years. Original plans also called for the replacement of the Forestville Road Bridge in 2016.

  • In an effort to reduce road closure times and lower construction mobility costs, the Town of Wake Forest asked the NCDOT to expedite the Rogers Road widening project to coincide with the bridge replacement project.

  • In March 2014 NCDOT informed the town that due to the additional right-of-way acquisition necessary to widen the road it would accommodate the town's request by swapping the Rogers Road and Forestville Road construction schedules.

  • As part of the Rogers Road Bridge replacement and road widening project, now scheduled to begin in June 2016, NCDOT will replace the existing two-lane bridge with a five-lane bridge and widen from two to five lanes the portion of Rogers Road from Hope Lutheran Church to Forestville Road.

  • Once completed, the project is expected to improve capacity and safety and relieve the bottlenecks that occur in the area during school rush hours.

Safety

  • Driving through construction zones can be somewhat tricky, but motorist safety is our top concern.

  • Motorists are reminded that weather and road conditions can change rapidly and should plan accordingly.

  • When traveling through a construction area, drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are asked to be patient, proceed with caution and obey flaggers at all times.

  • Dates, times and work locations are subject to change due to inclement weather or last-minute changes in work schedules.
