WAKE FOREST, NC – Due to the threat of inclement weather, the official dedication of the new historic marker for Oscar Alston’s Barber Shop, which will be situated adjacent to 111 S. White St., on Friday, June 19, at 10 a.m. has been moved inside the Town Hall Board Chambers, located on the second floor of the Wake Forest Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St. The relocation of the ceremony, originally scheduled to occur outside along the 100 block of South White Street, means the originally scheduled closure along Wait Avenue is no longer necessary.
Mr. Alston operated his barber shop in the basement of the Wilkinson Building from 1943-1962. Friday’s dedication ceremony will feature brief remarks by Mayor Ben C. Clapsaddle and members of Mr. Alston’s family.
Visitors may park in Town Hall’s Brooks Street parking lot, in the Taylor Street parking lot behind Town Hall, or in on-street parking around Town Hall.
