  • The large dog park at Flaherty Dog Park will close for maintenance on Monday, Jan. 5, and remain closed through early February.
  • While the large dog park is closed, the PRCR Department will implement a temporary schedule that allows small dogs and large dogs to rotate daily usage of the small dog park.
  • Signage is posted at the dog park to inform users of the temporary usage schedule.

WAKE FOREST, NC – Beginning Monday, Jan. 5, and continuing through early February, the large dog park at Flaherty Dog Park, 1100 N. White St., will be closed for maintenance. The temporary closure is necessary to allow crews to erect permanent fencing, install a drainage system, remove three dead trees, and make soil erosion repairs.

While the large dog park is closed, the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources (PRCR) Department will implement a temporary schedule that allows small dogs and large dogs to rotate daily usage of the small dog park.

The schedule grants small dogs access to the park during the following times each week:

  • 7 a.m.-Noon – Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays
  • Noon-5 p.m. – Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays

Large dogs will have access to the park:

  • 7 a.m.-Noon – Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays
  • Noon-5 p.m. – Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays

Signage is posted at the dog park to inform users of the temporary usage schedule.

The Town of Wake Forest opened Flaherty Dog Park in June 2007. The three-acre park features a paved entrance and two exercise areas. Each of the fenced areas – one for small dogs and one for larger dogs – includes grass cover, picnic tables, shade trees, waste stations, and a water fountain for both dogs and people.
