Crush COVID

Crush COVIDWakeMed is now the local site for Crush COVID, expanding the use of monoclonal antibody (mAb) treatment for high-risk patients with COVID-19. WakeMed is the second health system in North Carolina to join the initiative.

Monoclonal antibody (mAb) treatments are infusions given via an IV to prevent progression of the disease and reduce hospitalizations. For people who are at high risk for developing severe COVID-19 illness and have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, the one-time mAb infusion treatment has been shown to help prevent acute illness and hospitalization by up to 70 percent. It is most effective if administered within 10 days of onset of COVID-19 symptoms. Working with the NC Department of Health and Human Services, the US Department of Health and Human Services and KPMG, we want to ensure we increase access to this therapy in underserved communities in Wake County.

Infusion Sites

WakeMed has four infusion sites:

  • WakeMed North Hospital Physicians Office Pavilion Infusion Clinic, 10010 Falls of Neuse Road, Suite 106, in Raleigh.

  • WakeMed Cary Medical District – 222 Ashville Avenue (behind Cary Hospital)

  • WakeMed Raleigh Campus – 3000 New Bern Avenue (surface lot beside P5 parking deck)

  • Opening next week - WakeMed Garner Healthplex – 400 US Highway 70 East (surface lot area near helipad)

Eligibility & Appointments

  • Patients must meet the emergency use authorization definition of “high risk.” Many people are eligible for the treatment and do not realize it.

  • To confirm eligibility and book an appointment, call the mAb Infusion Line 919-350-9590. MANY people qualify for the treatment as long as they test positive for COVID-19 and get an appointment within 10 days of symptom onset.

  • Treatment is free for individuals who do not have health coverage. For people who have health insurance, copays or other charges may apply.
