WAKE FOREST, NC – Beginning Thursday, Oct. 8, and continuing through Monday, Nov. 2, Flaherty Park Community Center (FPCC), 1226 N. White St., will offer indoor walking opportunities for RecCard holders on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays from noon-2 p.m.

The initiative is designed to lessen the impact of the Joyner Park Community Center (JPCC) walking track and gym closures during this year’s early voting.

Earlier this week, the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources (PRCR) Department announced that the Wake County Board of Elections selected JPCC, 701 Harris Road, as one of 18 early voting sites in Wake County October 15-31. To accommodate the early voting period and allow sufficient time to set up and breakdown voting enclosures and other equipment, the JPCC gym and walking track will be closed October 8-November 2.

In response to concerns expressed by community members about the 26-day closure and their desire to walk indoors, the PRCR Department agreed to make Flaherty Park Community Center available October 8-November 2 on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays from noon-2 p.m.

Signage will be posted at JPCC and FPCC in the coming days to inform RecCard holders about the FPCC’s temporary indoor walking schedule. For more information, email PRCR Recreation Program Manager Grayson Pridgen at gpridgen@wakeforestnc.gov.
