Wednesday is the deadline to register for “Battle in the Forest” esports gaming tournament

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department will host an online esports gaming tournament featuring "Super Smash Bros. Ultimate" Saturday, Oct. 22. Open to players ages 10 and older, the online tournament is free to play and will be live streamed on Twitch.tv. Registration is open through Wednesday, Oct. 19, at https://wakeforestnc.recdesk.com/Community/Home.

Participants will compete in a one-on-one, single-day, double-elimination tournament to be run in conjunction with "Bull City Gaming." Matches will be best of three the championship match being best of five.

In the event more than 32 participants register, the tournament will expand to two days with the qualifying rounds taking place on October 22 and the top eight participants battling it out in the finals on Sunday, Oct. 23.

As an added incentive, the first 30 people to register will have their name entered into a drawing for a chance to win a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. Only tournament participants are eligible to win.

The top three players will receive a variety of prizes, including a scholarship from Barton College Esports. 

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a 2018 Japanese crossover fighting game developed by Bandai Namco Studios and Sora Ltd. and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. It is the fifth installment in the Super Smash Bros. series, succeeding Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
