Lawn Care 101 now part of "Lawn & Landscape Series"

The Town of Wake Forest is introducing a new series of seminars for residents interested in learning about lawn care and trees. The new “Lawn & Landscape Series” includes “Lawn Care 101” workshops offered by the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources (PRCR) Department and “Tree Talk” seminars hosted by the Urban Forestry Board.

Lawn Care 101

The series gets underway Tuesday, Oct. 1, with “Home Lawn Turfgrass 101.” Geared for homeowners, the workshop will include a presentation and discussion on grasses recommended for our region, along with a site visit. The series continues Thursday Oct. 17 (rescheduled from Tuesday, Oct. 8), with “Easy Landscaping – Plants & Shrubs.” Also aimed at homeowners, the class will highlight commonly used landscape plantings in Town parks and low maintenance plant selections and include a site visit.

Led by Park Maintenance Superintendent Josh Glover, both sessions will take place from 6-8 p.m. in the Ground Floor Meeting Room at the Wake Forest Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St. The room is most easily accessible via the facility's Taylor Street entrance.

An N.C. State graduate with a degree in Turfgrass Science, Glover has turf management and landscaping experience at professional sports stadiums, golf courses, and 11 years in park maintenance.

The cost to participate in each workshop is $5 and pre-registration is required. The nominal fee will be used to help sponsor a field trip for Club Connect, a social club for teens and young adults with disabilities sponsored by the PRCR Department.
