WAKE FOREST, NC – You’re invited to attend the official dedication of the new historic marker for Oscar Alston’s Barber Shop, adjacent to 111 S. White St., on Friday, June 19, at 10 a.m. Mr. Alston operated his barber shop in the basement of the Wilkinson Building from 1943-1962. The dedication ceremony will feature brief remarks by Mayor Ben C. Clapsaddle and members of Mr. Alston’s family.
For the safety of participants, Wait Avenue will be closed to traffic and parking Friday from 9:30-11 a.m. Visitors may park in the public parking lot at 120 S. White St. or on-street parking along South White Street. In the event of inclement weather, the dedication ceremony will take place indoors in the Ground Floor meeting room of Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St. The Taylor Street entrance to Town Hall can be used for easy access.
