- During the February 3 Board of Commissioners work session, the Board of Commissioners appointed former commissioner Nicolas Sliwinski to fill the unexpired term of former commissioner and current Mayor Ben Clapsaddle.
- Sliwinski’s appointment was secured after three rounds of voting by the commissioners following interviews with him and four other candidates.
- He was sworn in immediately following the vote and took his seat on the dais.
WAKE FOREST, NC – During the February 3 Board of Commissioners work session, the Board appointed former commissioner Nicolas Sliwinski to fill the unexpired term of former commissioner and current Mayor Ben Clapsaddle.
Sliwinski previously served on the board from December 2021 through December 2025.
His appointment was secured after three rounds of voting by the commissioners following interviews with him and four other candidates - Abby Black, Joan Falvey, Daniel Hupp, and Jasmine Zavala. The five were selected from among 14 applicants after the December 19-January 14 application period.
During the first two rounds round of voting, Sliwinski received two votes, while Hupp and Falvey received one vote apiece. During round three, Sliwinski received a majority of the votes.
He was sworn in following the vote and took his seat on the dais. Sliwinski’s term commences immediately and expires in December 2027.
Mr. Clapsaddle was elected to a four-year-term on the BOC in November 2023. He then ran for and was elected mayor in November 2025. Mr. Clapsaddle was sworn in as mayor during the December 16, 2025, Board of Commissioners meeting leaving his seat on the board vacant with two years remaining on his unexpired term.
