The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and the Town of Wake Forest will host a public meeting on Thursday, Sept. 10, from 5-7 p.m. regarding proposed improvements along the portion of South Main Street/US 1A between Star Road and Wake Drive. The open house meeting will be held in the ground floor meeting room of the Wake Forest Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St., which is most easily accessed via town hall's Taylor Street entrance.
Purpose of Meeting
The proposed road improvements are designed to increase motorist safety. From July 2010 through June 2015, 131 vehicle crashes were reported in the area. Although the project is currently unfunded and has not been scheduled, officials say its status could change since the initiative would require minimal acquisition of additional right of way.
The Sept. 10 meeting will have an open house format, so area residents and business owners are invited to stop by any time between 5-7 p.m. to ask questions and provide feedback. Residents who live in the area or frequently travel along South Main Street are especially encouraged to attend.
Diagrams & Designs
Collision diagrams highlighting the area's reported crash history, along with the project's proposed conceptual design will be on display for review and comment.
No formal presentation will be offered, but NCDOT and town representatives will be on hand to answer questions and receive comments. Attendees will also have until Thursday, Sept. 24, to submit written comments for consideration during the project planning process.
NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act for disabled persons who wish to participate in this hearing. Anyone requiring special services should contact Ms. Anamika Laad at 919-707-6072 or alaad@ncdot.gov as early as possible so that arrangements can be made.
