WAKE FOREST, NC – The American Public Power Association (APPA) has awarded its Safety Award of Excellence to Wake Forest Power (WFP) for its commitment to safe operating practices throughout 2025. WFP received the Diamond Award, the highest honor, “for your steadfast commitment to protecting your workforce and your exemplary leadership within the public power community.”

More than 200 utilities across the country entered APPA’s annual Safety Awards competition. Entrants are categorized by worker hours and judged on the most incident-free records, as well as the overall quality of their safety programs and culture.

The APPA has conducted the Safety Awards of Excellence for over 66 years. As the national organization representing not-for-profit, community-owned utilities, the APPA supports more than 2,000 cities and towns across the United States.

“We’re honored to receive the APPA Safety Award of Excellence,” said Electric Utility Director Chris Terrell. “Our staff puts in a lot of hard work both day and night serving our community.  Our team keeps the trees trimmed, the wires up, and the lights on. The Diamond Award is a testament to their dedication to doing their work well and doing it safely.”
