Holding Park Pool Renovations

The Town of Wake Forest is pleased to announce that work was completed on a $750,000 renovation project at Holding Park Pool. The refurbishments were finished just in time for the pool's scheduled opening 2014 opening.

Improvements at the pool include a new epoxy floor on the pool deck, which will reduce the chance of people slipping while also extending the life of the structure. Other enhancements include new pumps and filters, new tiles and depth markers, a new diving board and slide and new ADA compliant steps. In addition, the pool shell received a fresh coat of paint and assorted leaks were repaired.

The most extensive part of the renewal project involves the complete renovation of the swimming pool locker rooms. Refurbishments include the installation of new lockers, tile flooring, ceiling tiles and LED lighting, along with new stalls, showers and water-saving fixtures, as well as a fresh coat of paint.

The Holding Park restroom, which is attached to the pool's concession stand, also experienced a dramatic makeover that features porcelain tile walls, epoxy flooring, new water-saving fixtures, freshly painted interior and exterior walls and a new diaper changing station.

"We are extremely excited about these wonderful enhancements at Holding Park Pool," said Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources (PRCR) Department Director Ruben Wall. "Most of all, we're excited for area residents who use the facility to enjoy the health and wellness benefits of swimming."

Located at 133 W. Owen Ave., Holding Park Pool is one of the area's largest outdoor public swimming pools. Open during the summer months, the 50-meter pool offers swimming to the general public, as well as swim lessons and parent/toddler swim times.

The pool, which opened in the early 1930s, has seen several improvements in recent years: in 2013, the chain link fence surrounding the pool was replaced and additional landscaping was installed to improve the pool's aesthetics.
