Wake Forest Power is one of 23 public power utilities across North Carolina to receive a 2024 Public Power Award of Excellence.

Presented by ElectriCities of North Carolina, the awards reflect Wake Forest Power’s commitment to continuously providing outstanding electric service to the community. Public Power Awards of Excellence recognize public power providers for developing a future-focused mindset, strengthening public power, providing superior power, delivering customer-centered innovation, and prioritizing their people as their greatest asset.

Wake Forest Power received public power awards in three categories:

  • The STRENGTHEN PUBLIC POWER AWARD celebrates communities that build public and political support for public power.
  • The PROVIDE SUPERIOR POWER AWARD highlights communities that deliver reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity.
  • The PEOPLE AWARD distinguishes cities and towns that leverage their people as their greatest asset.

The awards were presented during the 2025 ElectriCities Annual Meeting, August 11-13, in Myrtle Beach, SC. On hand to accept the awards were (see attached photo, left to right) Town Manager Kip Padgett, Electric Utility Director Chris Terrell, Electric Systems Manager Hugo Mier, and Assistant Town Manager/CFO Aileen Staples.

“I am pleased to celebrate our lineworkers and other utility professionals who are the true recipients of these awards,” said Mayor Vivian Jones. “This recognition reflects their unwavering commitment to providing exceptional value and service to our electric customers. It is through their year-round efforts that Wake Forest Power is recognized nationally for providing our customers with the highest degree of reliable and safe electric service.”

“Receiving a Public Power Award of Excellence validates the hard work of outstanding people in your community who are dedicated to providing the superior service required to keep your community powered,” said Andy Fusco, Chief Strategy Officer at ElectriCities. ElectriCities is the membership organization that provides power supply and related critical services to over 90 community-owned electric systems in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia—collectively known as public power.

“At ElectriCities, we are honored to celebrate this year’s Public Power Awards of Excellence recipients, alongside the customers and communities that benefit from their expertise,” said Fusco.
