Specialized Programs & Inclusion

SPIRIT Wake Forest

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department is proud to offer Specialized Programs and Inclusion Resources for Individuals Throughout Wake Forest (SPIRIT Wake Forest).

SPIRIT Wake Forest is dedicated to creating engaging, adaptive, and inclusive recreation opportunities that ensure everyone in our community has the chance to participate, belong, and thrive. Our programs span a wide variety of interests; from sports, art, cooking, social gatherings, day program, and dances. Each activity is designed to encourage personal growth, build friendships, and celebrate abilities in a supportive environment.

Our team includes two licensed and certified recreational therapists who bring a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience working with individuals of all abilities. Their expertise helps us create programs that are not only fun and meaningful, but also carefully adapted to meet the unique needs of each participant.

With new initiatives and events continually on the horizon, SPIRIT Wake Forest is committed to expanding opportunities and fostering a truly inclusive community for all.

Inclusion Services

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Resources Department is committed to an inclusive approach to recreation and encourages individuals with and without disabilities to participate together.

In order for individuals with special needs to participate as fully as possible, reasonable accommodations will be provided in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. If you or a family member requires a reasonable accommodation to participate in a program, contact Mackenzie Dolecheck at 919-435-9559.

What is a Reasonable Accommodation?

Reasonable accommodations are additional supports and resources used to help aid a person with a disability to participate in any program. These resources may include, but are not limited to, auxiliary aids or services, adaptive equipment, or additional support staff. The ADA does not require the Town of Wake Forest to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of its programs or services, compromise the safety of participants, or impose an undue financial or administrative burden.
