The Communications Department is responsible for keeping the residents of Wake Forest informed about town programs and services, as well as the actions of the town government. The Communications Department is responsible for developing newsletters, brochures, electronic and e-mail communications with citizens, videos, press releases, and other informational materials, as well as managing content on the town's web site and Wake Forest TV 10. The Communications & Public Affairs Director works with the local media by providing information, arranging interviews and acting as a spokesperson for the town.

In October 2012 the town created the Department of Downtown Development to formally manage and oversee the activities of the Downtown Revitalization Corporation, now known as Wake Forest Downtown, Inc. The department is charged with coordinating economic development, as well as special events and other activities in historic downtown Wake Forest.

The Department of Economic Development coordinates the Town's business recruitment and retention efforts. Responsibilities include coordinating and implementing marketing initiatives, programs and projects that support and promote business attraction and retention, commercial development, small business/entrepreneurial development and other economic development projects.

The Engineering Department is responsible for review and inspection of new development and operation and maintenance of existing Town infrastructure.

Engineering consists for four groups: Transportation, Construction Inspection, Stormwater, and Environmental Engineering.

The Finance Department's activities consist of billing & collections, accounting, financial management and fiscal operations, budgeting, purchasing, central services, and customer service.

The Wake Forest Fire Department is committed to providing fire prevention education, fire suppression, medical services, and other emergencies and non-emergency activities to the surrounding community, visitors, and residents of the Town of Wake Forest. We accomplish this mission through education, training, and dedication to the protection of our membership and citizens.

Human Resources' primary responsibilities in the areas of recruitment and selection of personnel, organizational development and training, employee benefits, policies and procedures administration, retirement and vendor relations. Also oversees the town's Risk Management program.

MIS establishes, plans and administers the town's management and use of information technology. Duties include providing tools and training for employees; creation, acquisition, development, maintenance, distribution, training and exchange of spatial or geographic information; support for all areas of information technology and communication including voice, radio, and data; and enhancing and improving information exchange from department to department and to the citizens of Wake Forest.

The Inspections Department handles building inspections and permitting services for all areas inside the town's jurisdiction. The primary function of the department is to promote the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Wake Forest, through the uniform enforcement of the North Carolina State Building Code and local ordinances. Activities include: processing applications, performing plan review, collecting fees, and issuing permits for construction activity regulated through N.C. General Statutes; conducting inspections during various phases of construction of buildings and structures, including the installation of electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems to ensure code compliance; issuing certificates of compliance and occupancy and other related activities as mandated per N.C. General Statutes.

A division of the Town Manager’s office, Risk Management assists all departments with identifying, analyzing and controlling risk throughout Town. Our focus is to help ensure the Town provides a safe environment for our employees and our citizens.

The Town Attorney is appointed by and reports to the Board of Commissioners.

The Town Attorney is responsible for providing legal advice to the Mayor, Town Commissioners, Town Manager, each of the Town’s Departments, and Town-appointed boards on a broad range of issues.

The Town Clerk is responsible for the following:

• Giving notice of Board of Commissioners meetings and preparing the BOC meeting agenda; 

• Recording BOC proceedings and serving as custodian of all permanent Town records;

• Keeping the Town Seal, attesting all Town documents, maintaining the Town Code; and

• Providing support services to the BOC. 

The staff in the Clerk's office includes the Town Clerk and Deputy Town Clerk. Business Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Wake Forest Power is comprised of 26 employees who strive to provide uninterrupted electric service to nearly 6,500 residential and commercial customers through the regular maintenance and upkeep of the town's electric distribution system.

Altogether, our crews operate and maintain more than 140 miles of overhead electric distribution lines. They regularly refurbish or rebuild electric lines that show signs of wear, and upgrade facilities where electric load has grown. Additionally, through our Reliability Improvement Program, we identify electric lines and circuits that require upgrades or even complete reconstruction to meet the growing needs of our community.

The Renaissance Centre also offers a diverse array of visual, performing and cultural programs for people of all ages.
