Wake Forest officials say progress continues on the South Franklin Street Widening Project with recent approvals clearing the way for the next phases of construction, including:
Streetlight Enhancements: Wake Electric will soon install decorative streetlight poles that will improve roadway lighting and match upgrades along other sections of the corridor.
Utility Revisions: Plan revisions that address dry utility conflicts have been approved, and the contractor has been authorized to move forward.
Retaining Wall Adjustment: A previously identified conflict with underground electrical infrastructure has been resolved allowing retaining construction of the retaining wall to proceed.
Lane Closures: Intermittent lane closures will occur throughout the project. These are weather-dependent and will be coordinated to reduce impacts on traffic.
In addition, the following work is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks:
Pipe crews will return the week of May 26.
Wall construction will begin the week of June 2.
Roadway work is anticipated to begin in mid-June, contingent on progress by utility providers.
Meanwhile, grading, concrete work, storm drainage installation, and multi-use path (MUP) construction will continue.
Officials say substantial completion of the project is scheduled for the end of September 2025 with final completion expected in late October/early November.
