Wake Forest Fire officials say a strong smell noticed by community members in Wake Forest and beyond is not the result of a gas leak.
Earlier today, in response to multiple reports of a foul smell in the air, the Wake Forest Fire Department began an investigation to determine the source of the odor. Minutes ago Enbridge Gas officials informed the WFPD that the smell was caused by natural gas transmission lines safely releasing built up pressure caused by periods of frigid weather.
Officials say the situation does not pose a safety hazard.
Still, Enbridge encourages customers to reach out if they detect unusual smells so it can investigate promptly and ensure its system is operating safely. If you suspect a gas leak, from a safe place call 911 and Enbridge Gas North Carolina at 877-776-2427.
