The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Resources Department is committed to an inclusive approach to recreation and encourages individuals with and without disabilities to participate together.
In order for individuals with special needs to participate as fully as possible, reasonable accommodations will be provided in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. If you or a family member requires a reasonable accommodation to participate in a program, contact Mackenzie Dolecheck at 919-435-9559.
FAQs
Reasonable accommodations are additional supports and resources used to help aid a person with a disability to participate in any program. The ADA does not require the Town of Wake Forest to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of its programs or services, compromise the safety of participants, or impose an undue financial or administrative burden.
Wake Forest offers a variety of reasonable accommodations to support participants in our programs, including:
- Headphones
- Sensory bags
- Adaptive equipment (if available)
- Communication and visual aids
If you need accommodations not listed above, you may submit a request. These will be reviewed by the Specialized Recreation and Inclusion Services Team.
While we strive to support all participants, the following services cannot be provided by Wake Forest staff:
- 1:1 Direct Support Staff: We do not provide 1:1 aides. However, families are welcome to bring their own support staff. They must complete and pass a background check before the program begins. Please email Mackenzie Dolecheck, mdolecheck@wakeforestnc.gov for background check information.
- Direct Personal Care: Includes entering stalls, toileting, or hygiene-related tasks. Staff may provide verbal and visual prompts, including the use of a bathroom schedule.
- Feeding Support: Includes hand-over-hand assistance or feeding (by mouth or tube).
- Medical or Nursing Services: Such as administering injections, catheterization, or complex medical monitoring.
- Mobility/Transfer Assistance: Staff cannot lift or physically transfer participants.
- Provision of Personal or Specialized Equipment: We cannot supply wheelchairs, communication devices, or other individually prescribed equipment. Participants are welcome to bring their own.
- Altering Program Rules for Safety: Safety-related rules and regulations must be followed and cannot be changed.
