Wake Forest has been celebrating National Trails Day for the past six years. Now we are including a 5K race to the festivities! Race proceeds will support the maintenance of current greenways and development of new greenways in the Town of Wake Forest.
Check-in for the 5K walk/run begins at 7 am, and the start time is 8 am
The Environmental Education Expo will offer both children and adults a unique opportunity to experience the wonders of nature while learning about the environment. Featuring interactive environmental education stations set up throughout Joyner Park, the expo will offer attendees the opportunity to learn about the Wake Forest greenway system and get an up-close look at a variety of living things they might encounter along Town trails:

The Town will be offering free Yoga from certified yoga instructor, Stephanie Barnhill. It will take place from 10:15 am to 11 am at the amphitheater.
* Please note: Anyone planning to participate is encouraged to bring a yoga mat.

Several local organizations will be participating in the Environmental Education Expo, including NC Leave No Trace and NC State Climate Office. Many more will be confirmed as the event date approaches.
Kids who pick up a passport at the Greenways Advisory Board booth and have it stamped at 6 or more stations will be eligible for a special prize (while supplies last). Those who visit ALL booths will be eligible for additional prizes.
Bourbon Street Beignets(opens in a new tab)(opens in a new tab) will also be onsite offering delicious breakfast treats.
National Trails Day (NTD) is a celebration of America's trail system, which occurs annually on the first Saturday in June. NTD features outdoor activities designed to promote and celebrate the importance of trails in the United States. Since 2003, the Town of Wake Forest has been building greenways(opens in a new tab)(opens in a new tab) as a way to bring open spaces that enhance the lives of its citizens within easy walking distance of their homes. The greenways link neighborhoods, parks, schools, and open spaces while also connecting to the vast Triangle greenway system. There are several more greenways planned for the Town of Wake Forest.
