SCAM ALERT! WFPD & NCDMV warn of fraudulent text scams
The Wake Forest Police Department (WFPD) and the NCDMV are urging community members to guard against becoming the victim of fraud following a surge in fraudulent text message scams targeting North Carolina residents. The text claims to be from the North Carolina DMV, and falsely claims to request payment for fees, fines, or tolls.
NCDMV does not and will never request payments via text message.
Citizens are urged to report any suspicious texts as spam and delete them immediately. Do not click on any links or provide personal information in response to these messages.
Protect yourself from scams:
Be cautious of unsolicited texts requesting payment or personal information.
Verify any NCDMV-related inquiries through official channels.
Report suspicious texts to your mobile carrier or the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint.
If you believe that you are a victim of this type of crime, report it to the Wake Forest Police Department at 919-554-6150.
