Raleigh Water schedules overnight closure along South Main Street/US 1A May 8-9

Tuesday, May 6, 2025 - 8:49am

Raleigh Water will close a portion of the 500 block of South Main Street/US 1A (from Elm Avenue to Vernon Avenue) from 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 8, until approximately 5 a.m. Friday, May 9. The temporary road closure is necessary to allow crews to safely repair a sewer line. Water and sewer service in the area will not be affected.

The following signed detour will be in place directing traffic around the work area:

  • Motorists traveling southbound along South Main Street/US 1A will turn left onto Elm Avenue, right onto South White Street, and right onto East Holding Avenue. From here, motorists can turn left onto South Main/US 1A.

  • Motorists traveling northbound along South Main Street/US 1A will turn right onto East Holding, left onto South White, and left onto Elm. From here, motorists can turn right onto South Main/US 1A.

Delays are expected, so motorists may wish to avoid the area and use an alternate route. Motorists should be aware of all posted traffic signs, closures, traffic cones and work crews. Traffic control measures will be in place for the safety of workers and drivers. For more information, email Raleigh Water’s Jacob Barnhart at jacob.barnhart@raleighnc.gov.
