Portion of South Main Street/US 1A closed due to sewer main break

Monday, June 16, 2025 - 3:30pm

***UPDATE - The sewer main repair has been completed. The street cut has been repaved and the road has been reopened.

The information below was posted Monday, June 16, at 3:28 p.m.:

Due to a sewer main break, Raleigh Water has closed the portion of South Main Street/US 1A from Elm Avenue to West Owen Avenue. The main remains functional, so water and sewer service in the area is not affected.

Repair of the ruptured main may not begin until early Tuesday because Raleigh Water crews are attending to a separate emergency repair in Garner. As a result, the road is expected to remain closed until Tuesday afternoon.

A signed detour is in place directing motorists around the affected area. Delays are expected, so motorists may wish to avoid the area and use an alternate route.

Motorists should be aware of all posted traffic signs, closures, traffic cones and work crews. Traffic control measures will be in place for the safety of workers and drivers. For more information, email Raleigh Water’s Jeffrey Clark at jeffrey.clark@raleighnc.gov.

The Town of Wake Forest offers an interactive map that gives residents a user-friendly and convenient way to view local road closures and restrictions. Available at https://bit.ly/WFTrafficMap, the Traffic Alerts Map allows visitors to point and click on current road and lane closures throughout Wake Forest. Motorists are encouraged to use the information to help plan their route and move safely through work areas.
