The Wake Forest Police Department recently announced the top seven high-risk intersections in Wake Forest based on the number of accidents that occurred in those areas from January 2021-March 2025:

  1. Capital Boulevard (US 1)/South Main Street/New Falls of Neuse Road – 242

  2. Capital Boulevard (US 1)/Dr. Calvin Jones Highway (NC 98 Bypass) – 151

  3. Capital Boulevard (US 1)/Agora Drive/Wake Union Church Road – 144

  4. Capital Boulevard (US 1)/Burlington Mills Road – 141

  5. Dr. Calvin Jones Highway (NC 98 Bypass)/South Main Street (US 1A) – 141

  6. Capital Boulevard (US 1)/Stadium Drive/Jenkins Road - 95

  7. Dr. Calvin Jones Highway (NC 98 Bypass)/Durham Road (Old Falls of Neuse) – 95

Failure to reduce speed, inattention, and distracted driving were the most often cited contributing factors in these accidents.

Police officials are taking this opportunity to urge motorists to be alert and proceed with caution through these and all intersections.

On April 23, officers from the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) conducted a red-light enforcement operation at the intersection of Capital Boulevard and Burlington Mills Road. The operation resulted in 12 traffic stops and 12 citations. Of the motorists cited, officers noted some traveling through the intersection nearly five seconds after the light changed to red.

To try and make intersections safer throughout Wake Forest, officers will continue conducting enforcement campaigns with a particular emphasis on the high-risk intersections.
