NCFST Mobile Market returns to Wake Forest Thursday, WFPD to host ice cream social

Tuesday, May 6, 2025 - 3:02pm

The Northern Community Food Security Team (NCFST) and Ripe for Revival are pleased to provide a mobile grocery store across from the Northern Regional Center, 350 E. Holding Ave., on the second and fourth Thursday of each month from 3-4:30 p.m. – rain or shine. Offering fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy from local and regional farmers on a pay-what-you-can scale, the NCFST Mobile Market returns to Wake Forest on Thursday, May 8.

As a special “sweet treat,” the Wake Forest Police Department will host an ice cream social as part of Thursday’s Mobile Market. Community members are invited to stop by the market between 3-4:30 p.m. for a free individual cup of chocolate or vanilla ice cream, courtesy of Blue Bell Ice Cream, while supplies last. This is a great opportunity to meet your local officers in a relaxed setting, ask questions, and build stronger community connections.

In addition, the AmeriHealth Caritas NC Mobile Wellness Center will be onsite Thursday providing blood pressure screenings, Wi-Fi computer/printer access, and charging stations,  as well as information on Medicaid. A Southeastern Healthcare of NC representative will also showcase their services including home health, outpatient therapy, mental health homes, psychosocial rehabilitation, peer support, community health services, overnight respite, and health education.

Open to everyone, NCFST’s pay-what-you-can mobile grocery store makes fresh and local produce, proteins, dairy, eggs, and other food products accessible and affordable to all, regardless of their budget. When shopping, there are limits on the amount of protein, dairy, and eggs a consumer can purchase, but no limits on produce. At checkout, shoppers are given a suggested total. They can then pay the suggested amount, pay more (pay it forward), or pay less (pay what you can). Both cash and card payments are accepted.
