COVID-19 causes cancellation of several summer events
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town of Wake Forest has made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Friday Night on White concert series, Family Movie Nights at Joyner Park and Memorial Flag-Raising Ceremonies.
Town officials say the decision to suspend these summer staples was based on the unpredictability of the coronavirus, a desire to safeguard the health and safety of the community, and an expectation that residents will not be allowed to gather safely in large groups for the foreseeable future.
“We are terribly disappointed about canceling these events,” said Communications & Public Affairs Director Bill Crabtree. “However, our main priority is the health and well-being of our community. The latest information we have indicates we will need to continue social distancing into the summer months and beyond to help minimize the impact of COVID-19.”
Planning was well underway for the 2020 Friday Night on White Concert Series and Family Movie Nights at Joyner Park before the COVID-19 pandemic was declared. The Town of Wake Forest would like to recognize the generous sponsors that had already pledged their support for these events.

“We understand how disappointing this announcement will be to the supporters who look forward to these events every year,” said Crabtree. “But we believe we are making the socially responsible decision. It’s certainly not the end of these events. Instead, it’s a pause as we navigate these uncertain times and learn the safest ways we can host our events in the future.”
At this time, decisions have not been finalized about other summer programs, events and operations, including the Independence Day festivities and openings of Holding Park Aquatic Center and Taylor Street Park Sprayground. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
