2021 Christmas & New Year’s Holiday Schedules

Monday, December 6, 2021 - 2:50pm

The Wake Forest Town Hall and other administrative offices will be closed Thursday-Friday, Dec. 23-24, and Monday, Dec. 27, for the Christmas holiday and Friday, Dec. 31, for New Year’s. Police service will not be interrupted, but other operations will be affected.

Bus Service

During the week of December 20, the Wake Forest Loop (WFL) will operate on Friday, Dec. 24, but the Wake Forest-Raleigh Express (WRX) will not. Neither bus service will operate on Saturday, Dec. 25.

During the week of December 27, neither the WFL nor the WRX will operate on Saturday, Jan. 1.

Trash & Recycling

During the weeks of December 20 and December 27, trash and recycling will be collected as usual.

Yard Waste

During the week of December 20, yard waste will not be collected Thursday-Friday, Dec. 23-24. The collection of all routes, including the Thursday and Friday routes, will occur Monday-Wednesday, Dec. 20-22, until all have been completed. To ensure that all neighborhoods are serviced properly, residents are urged to leave their normal yard waste and loose leaves in separate piles behind the curb by 7 a.m. Monday for pickup by Wednesday. As always, please avoid placing items on or near mailboxes, utility boxes, utility poles or other fixed objects.

During the week of December 27, yard waste collection will be suspended. The break will allow crews to focus on collecting Christmas trees and provide the Fleet Services Division an opportunity to make much-needed repairs to the Town’s collection equipment.

Yard waste collection will resume Monday, Jan. 3.

Leaf Collection

Loose leaf collection will not be affected during the weeks of December 20 and 27.

To view a map of the weekly yard waste collection schedule, visit http://bit.ly/WFYardWaste. Wake Forest residents can track the progress of leaf collection crews by calling the Leaf Collection Hotline at 919-435-9582. The hotline is updated each weekday morning by 8 a.m. with information identifying areas where crews will be working that day.

Bulk Waste

Bulk waste collection will proceed as normal during the holidays. To schedule a bulk pick-up, complete the online bulk waste pick-up request form at http://bit.ly/WFBulkPickupForm.

Residents without internet service can schedule their bulk pick-ups by calling 919-435-9570. Anyone who calls after hours may leave a voicemail message. All voicemail requests for bulk pick-up service must include the resident’s name, physical address, and telephone number, along with a description of the bulk waste items to be collected. Any service request that does not include the required information will not be processed.

When scheduling a bulk waste pick-up, Wake Forest residents are urged to follow the Town’s bulk waste guidelines. Defined in the Town of Wake Forest Code of Ordinances as “refuse weighing in excess of 75 pounds each,” bulk waste includes any item that does not fit in the Town-issued roll-out garbage cart. Examples of bulk waste pick-up items include furniture, lawn mowers, swings, and bookshelves. For more information, visit wakeforestnc.gov and search “Bulk pickup.”

Area residents who wish to dispose of items that do not qualify for bulk waste pickup may consider utilizing one of Wake County’s 11 convenience centers. Open daily from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., each convenience center will close at noon on Christmas Eve and be closed all day on Christmas Day. For more information, including a list of locations, as well as acceptable and unacceptable items, visit www.wakegov.com/departments-government/waste-recycling/facilities/convenience-centers.

Christmas Tree Recycling

Beginning Monday, Dec. 27, Wake Forest will collect and recycle Christmas trees from Wake Forest solid waste customers. All Wake Forest residents whose trash and recycling are collected by the Town may participate in the “Treecycling” program. To recycle your Christmas tree, remove all decorations, tinsel, nails, stands and bags from the tree and set it behind the curb for collection. Artificial trees cannot be recycled.

Wake Forest residents are strongly encouraged to stay informed about the Town’s trash, recycling and yard waste collection programs, including changes to the normal collection schedules, by signing up for the “Waste Wizard.” Available on the Town website at http://bit.ly/WFWasteWizard, the Waste Wizard is an interactive tool that allows users to sign up for waste collection reminders and download collection schedules. As a bonus, the Waste Wizard is provided as a function on the Town of Wake Forest app. For more information or to download the Town app, visit www.wakeforestnc.gov/communications/app-download.

Residents can also receive email notifications concerning the Town’s holiday operations schedule by signing up for E-Notifier at www.wakeforestnc.gov/communications/e-notifier.
