Rabies/Microchip Clinic

A $5.00 fee is charged for each cat, dog or ferret vaccinated at the clinics. A $10.00 fee is charged for each administered microchip. Dogs and cats are required by law to have rabies vaccine at four months of age. The 1st vaccination is good for 1 year. Boosters thereafter are good for 3 years. Written proof of prior vaccination required for 3-year vaccination. Licensed veterinarians and certified rabies vaccinators will administer the vaccine. Your pet must be under restraint (leash, carrier, etc.) Failure to vaccinate is a fineable crime. Meet in the Street

For 27 years, people in the Wake Forest community have gathered to enjoy one of the largest family-friendly festivals in the region. A crowd of more than 10,000 is expected to descend upon the historic business district of Downtown Wake Forest for the 28th Annual Meet In The Street® on Saturday, May 3rd. The event is held from 10:00am-4:00pm and is free and open to the public. While there, visitors will have the chance to acquire some wonderful hand-made arts and crafts. More than 80 vendors from all over the Southeast proudly show off their handiwork at Meet In The Street®.  You can find beautiful paintings, jewelry and home décor, as well as many unique handcrafted items that make this annual event a celebration of local art and artisans. Be sure to stop by the Children’s Village, sponsored by HealthFIRST Pharmacy. There you will find games and activities staffed by the YMCA.  Come with an appetite, as the Food Village will be stocked with hot dogs, homefries and funnel cakes.  You can also experience international flavor by trying some of the Greek gyros and pita sandwiches. The entire family will be entertained by local dancers, singers and musicians on two performance stages. As always, you can meet up with some of the Triangle’s favorite mascots, including Wool E. Bull and Stormy from the Hurricanes! Two special guests will appear at the Knights of Columbus Council 6650 Learning Disabilities Charity Classic Golf Tournament being held at Lochmere Golf Club in Cary on May 3. Local authors Kim and Peter D'Arruda will be selling and signing books with all profits from sales going to the Knights supported Lamb Foundation of North Carolina Charity. The mission of the Lamb Foundation is to support a range of creative programs to help improve the quality of the human experience, especially for those suffering from Autism, Downs Syndrome, and Mental Retardation. Kim and Peter D'Arruda try to help improve the human experience as well, through helping better educate people on the subjects of budget, money, and finance. The two have combined to author three books. A Day To Play is a children’s book, which helps to teach the beginning principles of how to set a budget and be frugal with money.  The D’Arrudas feel this is an important lesson to teach our children starting at a very early age.  Financial Safari: Be Prepared, Not Surprised and Fine Print Fiasco take a more mature look at money and finance, detailing subjects such as fraud, identity theft, credit and “everything they don’t want you to know when you buy, borrow, and invest." Public Meeting - Bus Service in Wake Forest

Wake Forest Town Hall
For years many Wake Forest residents have expressed their desire to see bus service established in Wake Forest. As early as the first of August, plans call for a 19-passenger bus, operated by the Wake County Transportation Service, to circulate through Wake Forest. The bus will connect to the Raleigh line at timed intervals at a park-and-ride lot. Stops are expected at schools, the seminary, shopping centers, the library, and the post office, just to name a few. The express line would begin from some point in Wake Forest and end in downtown Raleigh with one stop between, at the Triangle Town Center. The official route will not be finalized until area residents have a chance to offer their comments at a public meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 13, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Wake Forest Town Hall. A draft map will be displayed during the meeting in order to give people an idea of the route. Anyone who can't attend the meeting, but would like to offer their opinion, is invited to email Wake Forest Engineering Director Eric Keravuori or call him at (919) 554-6122.

2008 Hoops for Wake Forest

The 13th annual Hoops for Wake Forest will be held May 17, 2008, on Brooks Street in downtown Wake Forest. Teams of all ages are invited to participate in this 3-on-3 basketball tournament benefiting local non-profit and civic organizations. Children 12 and under play free. Hoops for Wake Forest has raised more than $160,000 for local civic and non-profit organizations over its 13-year history. The MOMS Club of Wake Forest-North presents a FAMILY FUN DAY EVENT/SILENT AUCTION. The charity event is taking place on Thursday, May 22 from 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm at The Factory in conjuction with "Families After Five" at the fountain. All proceeds will benefit Meena Bali and her family. Meena is a local 2-year-old girl diagnosed with Esthesioneuroblastoma (ENB). ENB is a very rare malignant tumor. The Wake Forest Singers and Dan the Magic Man will perform. There will be face painting and Cotton the Clown will be making balloon animals. There will also be cotton candy and popcorn machines. The silent auction includes chances to win prizes from Barnes & Noble & Arbonne, free gym memberships, free golf, and lots of restaurant gift certificates. It will be fun for all ages and is for a great cause so please spread the word. D.A.R.E. Celebration Night

Free PRE-GED/GED classroom classes 
Registration begins Thursday, May 22; 6:00 p.m.

The Wake Technical Community College, in collaboration with the W.E.B. DuBois Community Development Corporation, unveiled new Pre-GED/GED classroom classes offered free to Wake Forest residents. The Pre-GED/GED instructional classes will be offered in a classroom setting at the Wake County Northern Regional Center located at 350 E. Holding Avenue, in Wake Forest, NC. These classes are designed to improve reading, writing and math skills in order for a student to earn a high school equivalency diploma. The classes will help county residents to prepare for the GED. Students will receive educational review in all five GED subject areas – Language Arts, Reading and Writing, Social Studies, Math, and Science – as well as sample GED Test questions to prepare them to take the GED test. Classes are open and available to anyone who needs or wants to study for the GED exam. Instructors will be available to assist students on a one-to-one basis.
Registration begins at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, at the Wake County Northern Regional Center at 350 E. Holding Avenue in Wake Forest. The season finale on May 25 features Polecat Creek, winners of the neo-traditional contest at the 2006 Appalachian String Band Festival. Polecat Creek fuses traditional mountain melodies with new lyrics and a singular style of harmony singing. 
This is the 16th season for the series sponsored by the Wake Forest Cultural Arts Association. The free concerts, which continue each Sunday through May 25, begin at 5 p.m. and last until 7 p.m. Area residents are encouraged to pack picnic baskets, blankets, chairs, dogs and children into their cars and come out to enjoy the music. Parking is available on the street. Local artists are invited to display their work, civic clubs sell hot dogs, snacks and drinks and various community groups display information and sale booths. Visiting with friends and neighbors, flying a kite, kicking a soccer ball and whirling a frisbee are strongly encouraged. Truck Fair

Heritage Middle School and Wake Forest-Rolesville Middle School
This year Heritage Middle School and Wake ForestRolesville Middle School will be hosting a joint Truck Fair. Truck Fairs highlight careers that utilize trucks and other transportation methods. By allowing students in the 6th grade to see  vehicles up close  and speak to those who use them everyday they will gain a greater appreciation of careers available in the many industries which utilize them. Area businesses will send a vehicle from their industry along with an employee. The employee will park the vehicle in a designated “booth” area at our schools. Groups of students will them visit each truck, view the vehicle and ask the employee questions concerning their career and the importance that the vehicle has in their daily work. Students will have booklets in which they will record information concerning each vehicle and career. After the vehicle visits the first school the employees are asked to drive to the next location and will be provided with lunch. Since this is a joint Truck Fair that will serve 900 + students employees with vehicles will be asked to be available from 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Registration is easy! Be Prepared: A Safety and Emergency Preparedness Expo to Help Families Prepare for the Storms of Life

This free event for the whole family will focus on safeguarding our homes and preparing our families for the future.  Hands-on exhibits will include water conservation and purification, self defense and awareness, basic first-aid, building 72-hour emergency kits, fire safety, family safety planning, gardening, food storage and preservation, preserving your past -protecting your future, as well as a large tasters table full of food made from 'basics'. We also plan to create a theme quilt "Kids Can Make a Difference" for Governor Easley by the children who attend. There will be several opportunities to win door prizes and free fire extinguishers and preparedness manuals will be provided for each family in attendance while supplies last. Concert in the Park

The Hagar’s Mountain Boys will offer a free bluegrass concert at Holding Park, 133 W. Owen Avenue, on Sunday, June 1, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. According to their website, “The Hagar's Mountain Boys bluegrass style is influenced strongly by the traditional bluegrass we all love, though staying modern with original material. With strong vocal harmonies and hard driving instruments the band is sure to put a smile on your face while you're listening to our toe-tappin' sound!” Area residents are encouraged to bring a picnic and a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy the music. The concert is offered by Pinecone, the Piedmont Council of Traditional Music and is co-sponsored by the Town of Wake Forest Parks & Recreation Department and United Arts of Raleigh and Wake County. In case of rain, the event will be held inside the Wake Forest Community House.

Wake Forest Christmas Historic Home Tour 2008

Wake Forest Historic District
The Town of Wake Forest will host its Christmas Historic Home Tour this year on Saturday December 6, 2008 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The tour is presented every two years by the Wake Forest Historic Preservation Commission and the Wake Forest Woman’s Club. This year’s tour will feature several properties which have either not been on the tour before or have not appeared on the tour for several years.  New this year – look for horse and carriage rides and entertainment by the Victorian Carolers out of Louisburg, NC.  This is a self-guided tour primarily in the Wake Forest Historic District around the seminary campus and up North Main Street.  Other properties will be nearby.  Tickets the day of the tour will be $15.00.  Discounted advance tickets will be available during November 2008.  Please note that these are mostly private homes and may not be handicap accessible.  Further information on individual properties and tickets will be available later.
