Walking Wednesdays in Wake Forest

The Town of Wake Forest is partnering with the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce and the Kerr Family YMCA to introduce “Walking Wednesdays in Wake Forest.” The initiative is designed to create a happier, healthier Wake Forest by encouraging all residents to get in shape, stay fit - and make new friends along the way.

Get Started - Form a Walking Group
Prior to the start of the 14-week series, area residents were encouraged to form public walking groups in areas around town that meet to walk on Wednesdays. Note: Walking groups are not limited to Wednesdays and, in fact, are encouraged to walk on other days as well. Walking locations may include neighborhoods, churches, parks and greenways - just to name a few.

Each walking group was encouraged to appoint a captain to serve as the group’s official point of contact. Walking group captains were then invited to register their group by completing the online registration form

As walking group registrations were received, the Town posted walking group meeting locations below and on an interactive map as a means of highlighting the variety of walking group options around Wake Forest. Each posting includes the name and email address of the walking group captain, along with the group's meeting location and time.

Please note: In recognition of the social benefits of walking in groups, area residents are not limited to one walking group and may participate in as many or as few as they wish.

Walking Wednesdays in Wake Forest
May 31 - Aug. 30

"Walking Wednesdays in Wake Forest" officially began Wednesday, May 31, and continues each Wednesday through Aug. 30.

Each Wednesday throughout the 14-week series, walking group participants are invited to track and report their activity to their respective group captain, who will be responsible for reporting the group’s total number of “Walking Wednesday” steps. Anyone without a fitness tracker may estimate their steps.

PLEASE NOTE: Anyone without a fitness tracker, is invited to estimate their steps. As a good rule of thumb, one mile equals 2,000 steps.

Area residents are invited to take part in Walking Wednesdays as frequently or infrequently as they choose. So, for example, if you didn't participate on May 31, you may still take part anytime during the 14-week series.

Each week after the walking group captains have reported their group’s total number of "Walking Wednesday" steps, the Walking Wednesdays Planning Committee will announce the cumulative number of steps - and approximate number of miles - Wake Forest participants tallied the previous Wednesday. The Town of Wake Forest will also provide a map to show how far the walkers have collectively trekked across the United States.

“Walking Wednesdays” participants are invited to share their pictures on social media and use #WalkingWednesdaysWF.
