Work set to begin on re-construction of Forest Road Connection

Monday, May 6, 2019 - 9:22am

Carolina Sunrock, a private contractor working on behalf of the Town of Wake Forest, will begin preliminary work today on re-constructing the Forest Road Connection.

Initial construction on the connection concluded in November 2018, but the Town refused to accept the road after an inspection revealed asphalt and safety issues. Since then, Town staff have worked with Carolina Sunrock to determine the cause of the asphalt failure and determine the best remedy for repair and acceptance.

Following the preliminary work during the week of May 6, milling of the current pavement will begin during the week of May 13 – weather permitting. Crews will then re-stabilize the road base prior to repaving. The work is expected to be completed in June.

Once completed, Forest Road, which is located off Ligon Mill Road, will run parallel to Wake Drive and extend to South Main Street/US 1A.

The Forest Road connection is one of several initiatives included as part of a $915,000 “Street Connections Project” affecting several areas throughout Wake Forest. Related efforts include the Royal Mill Connection, radius repairs in the South Forest Business Park, the re-striping of Retail Drive and the repaving of the Wake Forest Police Department parking lot.
