Traffic Alert - Dr. Calvin Jones Highway/NC 98 Bypass

Wednesday, January 11, 2017 - 11:16am

Drivers should expect delays along the Dr. Calvin Jones Highway/NC 98 Bypass in the vicinity of the South Main Street/US 1A intersection Monday, Jan. 16, through Friday, Jan. 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Weather permitting, a private contractor working at the future site of the Lidl supermarket will reduce to a single lane the portion of eastbound Dr. Calvin Jones Highway/NC 98 Bypass from Sienna Drive to South Main Street.

The lane reduction is necessary to allow crews to install a right-turn lane into the future Lidl parking lot.

Signs and cones will be in place to safely direct traffic through the work area. The lane reduction will cause delays, so motorists may wish to avoid the area and take an alternate route.

This project was originally scheduled to begin Jan. 9 but postponed due to inclement weather.

The Town of Wake Forest provides this information as a public service. Planned road closures and restrictions are necessary to allow for a variety of work. Motorists are encouraged to use the information to help plan their route and move safely through the work area. Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets when planned. When this occurs, town staff works with contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public. When traveling through a construction area, drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians are asked to be patient, proceed with caution, and obey flaggers at all times. Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone. Drivers are also urged to double their following distances.
