Traffic Alert – South Main Street/US 1A

Wednesday, June 7, 2017 - 9:50am

Weather permitting, the Town of Wake Forest will close the portion of South Main Street from Elm Avenue to South Avenue on Thursday, June 8, from 8:30 a.m.-4 pm. The temporary road closure is necessary to allow Wake Forest Power tree trimming crews to trim tree limbs and branches around overhead power lines.

Detour signs and flaggers will be in place to manage traffic flow and safely direct motorists around the work area. Motorists traveling north along South Main will be diverted right onto Elm, left onto South White Street, then left onto East Roosevelt Avenue. Motorists traveling south along South Avenue will be diverted left onto East Roosevelt, right onto South White and right onto Elm.

Delays are expected, so drivers are encouraged to take an alternate route if possible.

In the event the work is not completed Thursday, it will resume on Friday, June 9.

Wake Forest Power works to minimize storm impacts year-round through preventive maintenance, including trimming of trees around Wake Forest's 140 miles of overhead electric distribution lines. Downed trees and limbs are the leading cause of power outages during storms.
