Traffic Alert – Dr. Calvin Jones Highway/South Main Street Intersection
Two initiatives scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 6, at the future site of the Lidl supermarket, located at the corner of Dr. Calvin Jones Highway/NC 98 Bypass and South Main Street/US 1-A, are likely to cause morning and evening traffic delays.
Beginning at 4 a.m. approximately 40 concrete mixer trucks are scheduled to enter the Lidl construction site via Dr. Calvin Jones Highway/NC 98 east, pour concrete, and exit onto southbound South Main Street/US 1-A. The work is expected to continue until approximately 10 a.m. Although no lane closures are planned, delays are expected. Motorists are urged to avoid the area if possible and take an alternate route.
At 7 p.m., crews will close one lane at the intersection of the Dr. Calvin Jones Highway/NC 98 Bypass and South Main Street/US 1-A. The temporary lane closure is necessary to allow crews to locate an underground water line. The work is expected to be completed late Thursday evening. In the event the work is not completed Thursday, crews will resume their efforts at 7 p.m. Friday.
Flaggers will be in place to safely direct traffic through the work area. Delays are expected, so motorists are urged to avoid the area if possible and take an alternate route.
The Town of Wake Forest provides this information as a public service. Motorists are reminded that weather and road conditions can change rapidly and should plan accordingly. When traveling through a construction area, drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are asked to be patient, proceed with caution and obey flaggers at all times. Planned road closures and restrictions are necessary to allow for a variety of work. Dates, times and work locations are subject to change due to inclement weather or last-minute changes in work schedules.
