Wednesday, January 30, 2019 - 10:20am

Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 12, the Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources (PRCR) Department will offer “Champions in Motion” cheerleading classes on Tuesday evenings at the Alston-Massenburg Center, 416 N. Taylor St. Designed for girls and boys ages 4-18, the sessions will continue through Sept. 3.

The weekly classes will be conducted for different age groups according to the following schedule:

  • Ages 4-6 - 6-6:45 p.m.

  • Ages 7-9 - 6:45-7:30 pm

  • Ages 10-18 - 7:30-8:15 pm

Champions in Motion combines pom and cheerleading into one program. Students are taught cheerleading techniques, such as cheers and chants, with arm motions, jumps, kicks and stunting basics. Students are also taught dance routines and other dance techniques using poms to visually enhance the choreography.

Champions in Motion offers students the skills necessary to successfully try out for middle school and high school teams they might otherwise not be able to afford at high-cost cheer gyms.

There is a $10 registration fee and an $8 drop-in fee for each class. Pre-registration is required at

Students should dress for each class in comfortable athletic clothing, such as T-shirt and shorts or leggings. Participants wishing to compete in cheerleading competitions will be required to purchase uniforms.
